The camera is still a relatively new tool to me. The camera I am currently using is the Canon EOS 350D (or Digital Rebel as it’s called in the USA) and it has made photography considerably easier and a lot more fun. This is because my camera is digital versus the old film camera I was previously using. No longer do I have to wait for my film to be developed. No longer do I have to process my film in the dark using toxic chemicals. What I receive now is instant feedback via my camera’s LCD screen about the picture(s) I just snapped. This allows me to instantly check my pictures while I am in the field, saving both time and effort.

I enjoy the challenge of making everyday situations into something special and meaningful, and I love capturing the small moments in life that can mean so much but that so few people think of when an event is happening . I strongly believe in the legendary words of Robert Capa, “if your pictures aren’t good, you’re not close enough” because that summarizes what’s important in photography – getting close to your target. I will never have the courage, as he did, to charge into the middle of a war zone, snapping away with my camera as bombs fall around me. However, I at least can get close enough to the things and to the events that occur in my own life, and in the lives of others, to snap pictures that also make a difference. As Robert Capa captured the important moments of war, I aspire to capture the important moments in the lives of those at peace and at play.

Sometimes the anguish we survive and the mysteries we nurture are the fabrics of our lives. --Dream Theater
